Police Ombudsman for Northern Ireland

The Police Ombudsman's Office provides independent, impartial investigation of complaints about the police in Northern Ireland. We look at evidence to decide whether police officers have acted properly or not. We also investigate complaints about some, but not all, civilian employees of the police. This includes those performing custody and escort duties. Our decisions are made entirely independently of the police, government and complainants.

Press Ombudsman, Ireland

The Office of the Press Ombudsman provides an independent press complaints mechanism that is quick, fair and free. It considers complaints about newspapers (print and online), magazines and online-only news publications. The office is independent of government and the press. All national newspapers (including Irish editions of UK newspapers), most local newspapers, many magazines and some online-only news publications are members. Members commit to the Code of Practice of the Press Council of Ireland, which sets out the highest professional and ethical standards for their journalists. Complaints can be considered about articles and journalists’ behaviour, and the office offers conciliation and mediation services to complainants and publishers. If complaints cannot be resolved through this process the Press Ombudsman makes a formal decision on the complaint and if the complaint is upheld it must be published in full, without editorial comment and with due prominence by the member publications.

Property Ombudsman

Scheme deals with consumer complaints against estate agents, lettings agents, commercial property agents, residential leasehold management agents, international property agents, valuers and auctioneers, buying agents, buying companies, surveyors and other property professionals who are members of the scheme. Approximately 95% of estate agents and 80% of letting agents operating in the UK are members of the Scheme and follow TPO's Codes of Practice. Public Services Ombudsman for Wales

Looks into complaints about public services in Wales. The bodies the Ombudsman can look into include: local government (county/county borough councils and community councils); the National Health Service (including GPs); the National Assembly for Wales and housing associations. He also investigates complaints that local authority councillors have broken their authority's code of conduct. The Ombudsman is independent and unbiased. The service is free of charge.
