The Ombudsman Association welcomes the intention of the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local to strengthen and simplify consumer redress across the housing market.

  • It is in the interests of consumers that there should be a single, mandatory, ombudsman covering the private housing sector.

  • Any ombudsman should meet the Ombudsman Association’s membership criteria and principles of Good Governance and Good Complaint Handling.

  • To be effective an ombudsman needs to work in a well-regulated environment, with clear common standards to measure against, and liaise closely with enforcement bodies.
